Pickles’ biscuit bill rises by £10,000

The Communities and Local Government office blew £42,225 of taxpayers’ cash on snacks in just seven months, that’s more than £10,000 higher than the bill for snacks at meetings in the previous year.  Portly Mr Pickles’ department has been hailed as a shining example of cost-cutting by Chancellor George Osborne after he  launched a crusade against wasteful civic spending, and told councils of 50 ways to save cash — including banning mineral water at meetings.  Thanks to his policies councils all over the country are having to cut vital facilities like libraries.
